Being Used by God, Tip #3: Honor God in Everything - Monday Morning Devotion
God honors those who honor him.
David writes, "Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." (Psalm 57:11)
This is David's ultimate desire, that God's glory be made known to all people and his name proclaimed. It is the same desire we are taught to pray in the Lord's Prayer, "hallowed by thy name." (Matthew 6:9)
The word "hallowed" means to render or pronounce holy. God's name is essentially holy; and the meaning of this psalm is, "Let the name be celebrated, venerated, and esteemed as holy everywhere, and receive from all people proper honor." [From Barnes' Notes of the Bible ]
It is David's desire that the name of God, and more importantly God himself, should be held everywhere in awe and worshiped.
He is not looking for earthly wealth or fame. He is not hoping to glorify himself. He simply wants others to see God for who He is, our loving, Heavenly Father.
Now, we, being on the other side of Jesus' resurrection, have a Savior to proclaim to all the nations. It is out of our own awe, that we strive to lead lives that show Jesus' love to those around us.
Dear Lord in heaven, holy be your name. I pray that I would honor your name in everything I do and say today, so that others may see You and exalt You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
