"Thank you for your generous support to help us expand our House House facility!” share Cathy (Cherokee) and Tom (Ioway) Benzler with our Olympic Peninsula ministry in Washington.

“**The new building provides us with needed space for our monthly food collections and other items for our Native elders and families in need.** We have a loft area for things like quilts and winter wear, and there’s still enough space below for a needed refrigerator so we can also provide fresh fruits and vegetables.”

Through grants and gifts from individuals and congregations, Hope House now has a 12-by-16-foot storage building. Once the site was excavated, the cement pad poured and the building assembled, volunteers installed electricity and stocked shelves with donations and newly purchased items.

“The building came at a perfect time since [launching our Backpack Drive](/blog/washingtonolympic-peninsula/hope-house-backpack-drive) **to collect 500 NEW backpacks** for our Native youth,” says Cathy. “With our new building, we are able to store them until it’s time to give them out for this coming school year in September."

So far, people have donated about 150 backpacks. To help Hope House reach their goal of 500, backpacks and monetary donations (which will be used to purchase additional backpacks, if needed) are still welcome!
