Let's Go to the House of the Lord - Wednesday, December 2 (Advent 2020)
I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD.”
Psalm 122:1
A family with three small children joined our church last year. Since they play with some other kids in the neighborhood, they invited their neighbors to church. From that time on, the neighbor children have come to almost every worship service and church activity we have had. As we have had the opportunity to get to know the children, we have found out their lives have been touched by trauma, just as many in our community have been. Their father committed suicide and left the mother with 7 kids. Their grandfather tries to help but struggles with alcohol. And yet, the joy on the children’s faces when they are in God’s house is irrepressible. Truly, the LORD works wonders out of what seems hopeless from a human perspective.
At this time of the year, many churches offer a mid-week worship service as we anticipate Jesus’ birth and second coming. These services are often poorly attended, but our Lord invites us to accept with joy the invitation to come and worship him. God has done so many marvelous things, and when we consider all of what he has done it ought to be natural to say “Yes! Let’s go to the house of the LORD!”
God, I thank you for all you have done in my life. You have sent your son, Jesus, to forgive my sins and give me peace with you. Give me your Holy Spirit so I may rejoice every time I have an opportunity to worship you with other Christians. Amen.
