Oh God, Our Hope (Week 4) - Monday Morning Devotions

Today, I would like to offer you a message of hope and love in Christ Jesus.
If you are one of those who still watches or listens to the news then you are probably in need of some encouraging words, some good news. There is no better place to turn for some Good News than to God and His Sacred Word. Today we turn to the first two verses of Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses:
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Can you imagine a time before our Creator spoke the mountains into existence, or prior to the earth being formed? In other words, can you envision a world of nothingness?
There are all types of theories about how the world began, but none of them begins with nothingness. In the beginning, there was only God, and He gives us the story of creation. God was and God is and God will be forever and ever. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
And, here comes the Good News: God is love! God's love never changes, it is not like the emotional roller coaster of our love life. God showers us with His love!
Now, think about this third verse from the hymn written by Isaac Watts: 'O God, Our Help in Ages Past':
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Did you see how nicely this verse ties in with the words from Moses’ prayer found in Psalm 90?
When it comes to trusting in God, we have been blessed and moved by the Holy Spirit to count on Him as a sure thing. Our daily lives may feel like an emotional roller coaster, but rest assured God is with you through each rise and fall, each twist and turn in your life!
You can dwell in the love of God, despite this fallen world, and live in faith with the blessed hope of the resurrection found in the redemptive work of Jesus and His glorious resurrection!
Please pray with me: O God, for our redemption, You gave Your only-gotten Son to death on the cross, and by His glorious resurrection, He delivered us from the power of the enemy. Grant that all our sin may be drowned through daily repentance, and that day by day, we may arise to live before You in righteousness and purity forever; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
