John 15:13-17
13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.17This is my command: Love each other.
1 John 3:16-18
16This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Reflect:
We are asked to act. Jesus gave his life to save us, and in thanksgiving and joy, we should be willing to do the same for the lost, to set aside our own plans and life to help those in need. Prayer is powerful and necessary, but we are also called to be Jesus’ hands and feet while on this earth. Jesus’ ministry did not end with His ascension; it was passed on to us to continue. The best way for us to show His love to those in need and hurting is “not with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Listen to God’s calling for you. What is He asking you to act on? Which part of this broken world is He asking you to help fix?
