TRUTH: what the world needs - Week 7 (Monday Morning Devotions)
As we welcome in a new year, let us focus on God’s Word and HIS TRUTH, dedicating this year to the Lord.
What the world needs now - is not love, in my humble opinion, but Truth. Truth with a capital 'T'. Yes, what the world needs now is Truth.

Today I begin with this question: 'have you ever been lied to?'
I am sure you have. People tend to want to believe what people say to them. However, when we are lied to on a regular basis, maybe by the same person or people, we become skeptical.
Maybe you have even been taught that 'if it sounds too good to be true, then don't believe it!'
However, I do have some words to share with you that, although they sound too good to be true, are in fact true.
I began this study discussing two types of truth. The first is transient truth. Transient truth usually is true, or at least it certainly appears to be true, but sometimes through careful observation and technological advances is found to be false. One example: for centuries learned men thought the earth was the center of the universe, but this has been debunked.
The second type of truth is Transcendent Truth. Transcendent Truth comes from God. God's Transcendent Truth has been revealed in the Sacred Word of God, which never changes! And by the grace of God, we come to believe in the truth of God and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. This is news that sounds too good to be true, but it is in fact true. Paul wrote to the believers in Colossae these words:
We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, always praying for you having heard of your faith [which is yours, as you are] in Christ Jesus, and of your love, which you have for all the saints, on account of the hope--laid up for you in the heavens--which you heard about beforehand in the Word of the truth of the Gospel, which came to you, as also it is bearing fruit and increasing in all the world as it is also among you, from the day when you heard and came to know the grace of God in truth, as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow slave, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf, who also made clear to us your love in the Spirit. [Colossians 1:3-8 (CPH - Deterding)]
Jesus prayed for us - his followers - with these words to His heavenly Father:
"I am coming to you now . . . I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world." In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
