Living By Faith - Monday Morning Summer Devotion Series - Week 4

On the day you were born, no one cared about you. Your umbilical cord was not cut, and you were never washed, rubbed with salt, and wrapped in cloth. No one had the slightest interest in you; no one pitied you or cared for you. On the day you were born, you were unwanted, dumped in a field and left to die… And when I passed by again, I saw that you were old enough for love. So I wrapped my cloak around you to cover your nakedness and declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.
Ezekiel 16: 4-5, 8

Do we really know the power of our God? This modern-day pandemic (plague) has caused much fear in the world. As a Christian, I can’t help but see God’s hand in everything. Ezekiel 16:4-5 talks about cutting the umbilical cord. When we were in our mother's womb, we relied on this lifeline to provide nutrition and a means for life. As we entered the world, this cord was cut, enabling us to live on our own.

Life is much like this passage. When we are saved by Christ, we are to cut the umbilical cord of the world, but often we are still attached to our worldly ways.

God gives us the opportunity to overcome through Christ. And like verse 8 says, “When I passed by again, I saw that you were old enough for love.” God never gives up on us and is always ready when we ask for help. God helps us to overcome our worldly ways. God promises has made us His own. He is our protector, our God. Before you question God about the evils of this world, question yourself. Are you relying on your faith in Him? Turn to God.

Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing us this opportunity to reassess our priorities. The world has turned wicked in so many ways. We have all sinned against you. I ask you for forgiveness, for your tender mercies, for your continued love. Help me to turn away from the temptations of the world. Give me the courage and strength to cut the umbilical cord of the world and to help others see the freedom we receive through your Son. Help me to be a light like Jesus. Father, I pray you keep providing your protection during these dark days. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
