Never-Changing God - Lent 2020
I have said these things to you that in me you may have peace, in the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.
John 16: 33
I was sitting at the dining table looking out over the Straits of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island when I noticed it. Fog was rolling in, west to east, down the channel. It was the first time this year, and I knew it meant a change of season was coming.
This got me thinking about change. So many things change in this life. Our children are much happier and settled when their schedules are constant and consistent. They become anxious when things change. Churches often experience anxiety when they must face change.
In our Native villages, life can change from good to traumatic in the blink of an eye.
Jesus warned us this would happen: “In this life you have tribulation.” We know seasons change. We know life can turn upside down in a moment, in a single act.
In this ever-changing world, we need a never-changing anchor. We need a never-changing God! He tells us that in Him we will have peace, even in the midst of trials and ever-changing life. Jesus, the same yesterday, the same today, the same tomorrow, loves you so much he came to this ever-changing world to live, die, and be resurrected for your everlasting life.
Take heart… He has overcome the world!
Lord, we thank you for being the never-changing God of our lives in an ever-changing world! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
