Joy in Sorrow - Lent 2020
Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old, together,
For I will turn their mourning into joy
And will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow.
Jeremiah 31:13
Read Romans 8
As you read this chapter and reflect on what it means to live in our sinful world, remember, our pain and discomfort in this world are only a small infliction before the great, everlasting glory that is to come.
More than that, we know God works for the good of those who love him. When we put our lives in his hands, he will take our weaknesses, wrongdoings, and misery and make them his own, incorporating them into His glorious plan.
Therefore, we should not run away from or despise discomfort but rejoice in the fact that even though this life is really hard, we can continue to praise the One who has already overcome it.
Take time to reflect on any past sorrow in your life. How have you seen God use it for good? Often, in our own sorrow, we find it hard to see any good. Ask someone close to you for help and a different perspective.
