Fighting Isolation & the loss of culture
Native people living on tribal lands are quarantining to preserve their past and ensure their future. The mission is worthy: save the lives of the elders, save the culture. But in doing so, the mental and emotional isolation is breeding more addiction and mental health issues, among other problems.
A New Trauma
We heard the warnings and followed the rules: Stay home, social distance, self-quarantine for 14 days. We did our best, and we flattened curves. Yeah, us! But, what about the individuals who, because of the forced isolation, were exposed to abusive relationships, addictions, and worsening physical and mental health issues. This pandemic has made Native ministry even more relevant.
On Solid Ground
Beloved hymns have a way of becoming spontaneous prayers when they weave in and out of our thoughts, reminding us Jesus is not far away.
Adaptability & Ingenuity in Native Ministry
Every morning during my prayer time, I thank God for you. I thank Him for your faithful presence in this ministry through your prayers and selfless generosity. I pray He will protect you and keep you safe as, together, we continue in this time of recovery.
He is Risen Indeed!
As life returns to “normal,” and we begin to gather once again to study His Word and worship, I invite you to walk with us. Not just to continue your support of Lutheran Indian Ministries with your prayers and gifts, but to do so with urgency. Help us reach Native lives as though there is no tomorrow. Let’s use these lessons we’ve learned to do God’s will more passionately and intentionally.
Satan intended our distancing for evil, but we can use it to grow God’s Kingdom as we’ve never seen before.
Praising God During a Pandemic
God is indeed in control of all things. He will watch over you and guide you as you seek His will and His way. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Sacred Story Success at Haskell
The weekend of Valentine’s Day saw many hearts open at Haskell LIGHT.
Our Sacred Story team converged on the Haskell Indian Nations University to touch the lives of the native students and community members by allowing them to share their stories of abuse and hurt in order to begin their healing journey.
Montana Healing Project
Because you recognize the importance of this work, LIM has been able to send our Sacred Story team to Montana twice, in the past 4 months. It is our prayer to bring Sacred Story to all seven Montana reservations. With your help, we will do that.
