Faith in the Unknown - Lent 2020

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Read 1 Corinthians 1:17-31

To non-Christians, of Jesus' time and our own, our belief in the crucified and risen Jesus is ridiculous.

To the Jews, the cross was the tree of shame and a crucified person was "accursed of God" (Deuteronomy 21:23; Galatians 3:13). To the Greeks, the cross was the punishment for a slave or murderer. Crucifixion was reserved for the lowest of the low. From those perspectives, worshiping one who was crucified was completely idiotic and stupidly superstitious.

Likewise, in today's world of self-help and living on your own terms, putting faith in something other than your own work is naive and ignorant.

But we know that all of God's works have meaning and were done for a purpose. No matter where we are on our faith journey (or in our theological training), we also know we won't understand it all. We put our faith and trust in our Heavenly Father, finding comfort in his Word and in our Savior.
